Daniel Kobialka and the Hmong Shaman Documentary

The Split Horn: Life of a Hmong Shaman in America, documents 17 years in the life of Paja Thao. A poignant journey in American assimilation, family, and the duality of growing up in American while holding onto ancient traditions and values; Split Horn is at times a heartbreaking work. The documentary’s redemption comes at the end, when the extended family is brought back together in an effort to restore Paja and his wife’s soul through ancient traditions.

Scored by our own Daniel Kobialka, the music follows the narrative of the film; sometimes uplifting, and melancholy when needed. We hope to rediscover the original masters of these recordings.
