The Doc and His Piano

San Antonio’s jazz scene is legendary! Jim Cullum’s Riverwalk Jazz Band is world renown for its dedication to the traditional sounds of New Orleans and Dixieland. Carmens de la Calle is not only a fantastic place to sate your appetite for the savory, and sometimes sweet flavors of Spain and Latin America; but also a favorite spot to take in the sounds of San Antonio’s jazzmasters. Approximately 9 years ago, LiSem invited pianist, Doc Watkins, to record an album of some of his favorite jazz standards for the label. For those of you that are not familiar with Doc, he’s the proprietor behind San Antonio’s Jazz, TX. It is here where one can take in the smokey flavors of the area in tandem with the sounds of Doc and his band. Swinging From San Antonio, documents Doc and his trio doing their thing in Austin, TX’s 12th Street Sound. Recorded live in a period of roughly 8 hours, swinging is exactly what you and your favorite person might do once you discover this wonderful recording!
